Why choose a CSAPS member?

The CSAPS is the only recognized professional body of plastic surgeons in Canada who specialize in cosmetic plastic surgery. The members of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic (Cosmetic) Plastic Surgery are plastic surgeons certified in the the specialty of plastic surgery by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Only surgeons who meet specified professional and ethical standards are offered membership with the CSAPS. Each member has received training in excess of 5 years beyond the training necessary to attain a license to practice medicine (MD). In addition to meeting the membership requirements of the CSAPS, members have demonstrated their commitment to continuing medical education in order to learn about the newest cosmetic plastic surgery techniques. Because the field of cosmetic plastic surgery is open to any Canadian physician with a license to practice medicine, any doctor, regardless of how much or how little training they have, can perform surgical procedures such as laser skin resurfacing and liposuction. CSAPS members are plastic surgeons who are qualified to perform plastic surgery to all parts of the body After graduating the specialty of plastic surgery, they have chosen, through self-study and continuing medical education, to specialize in all types of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. Generally speaking, members of the CSAPS perform all the primary cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. You may find, however, that due to personal preference, certain procedures are not performed by some members. The CSAPS recommends that prospective cosmetic plastic surgery patients contact their provincial college of physicians and surgeons to determine the designated specialty of any doctor they are considering for cosmetic plastic surgery.
